Conversational social media platforms allow people to connect in real time through messages, chats, and discussions instead of just likes or shares of posts. One widely used conversational tool today is facebook messenger. This is a platform part of Facebook, where people can move seamlessly between comments/likes to private conversations. I’ve been using Messenger for years, and it continues to be one of the easiest ways to stay connected with friends, family, and gives you access to contact, even brands or influencers in this case of my interest.
What I like most about Facebook Messenger is how convenient it is. You can chat one-on-one, or create group conversations, send photos and videos, they can be limited to a size which might change later on, and even make voice and video calls. Also, the ability it gives you to react to messages, with sending stickers, gifs, makes conversations more fun. Another great feature is that it connects directly with Facebook Pages, so as a business and as a creator page I can use it to talk with customers in real time if needed.
Another feature is how Messenger helps maintain real relationships. It feels more personal than trying to reach by email or posting on a public feed randomly, this helps because you’re communicating directly with someone. I’ve used it to stay in touch with classmates, check in with family, and join events. This is a great way without having to get personal contact like phone numbers but still have those private conversations.
However, there can be a downside to Facebook messenger, just like any other social media, that amount of time it can consumed. Also, the pressure that it can generated for that life time response. I'm sure with time discipline, you can overcome this downside and make it more effective for your personal or business needs.
In conclusion, I think Facebook Messenger is one of the most effective conversational platforms because it gives you the real time connection advantage. This teaches me that social media isn’t only about content and posts, it’s also about connection and communication, which are key in networking business. So for my extra credit this week, I reopened my old threads account which is connected to my personal instagram, to explore another type of conversational platform and see if it can work for me.
